k¨stritzer
Koestritzer may be the original black beer. This brewery finds its origins in 1543 in the Eastern German town of Bad Koestritz. Reputedly both Bismarck's and Goethe's favorite beer, Koestritzer was very popular across Germany until the end of World War 2, the Cold War cut of the distribution of this fine beer and almost cost it's life. The doors closed briefly until the reunification of Germany when it was rescued by the Bitburger Brewery, although Koestritzer is a ˇ°black beerˇ±, it has a light flavor without the bitterness of many dark beers. Blend roasted malt flavor, low sweetness, and some hop flavor and you end up with the smooth, highly drinkable, Koestritzer.
